Rocky Mountaineer Vacations Scores a Hat Trick with Top Honour at the World Travel Awards
December 18, 2007
Three times a charm for Rocky Mountaineer Vacations (RMV), owners and operators of Canada’s acclaimed Rocky Mountaineer train. For the third consecutive year, the company has won the prestigious World Travel Award as, “World’s Leading Travel Experience by Train.” This is the world's most comprehensive travel awards ceremony, with trophies awarded in all areas of the industry. The 14th annual World Travel Awards gala event was held in Turks and Caicos on December 12, 2007 and was attended by leaders of the industry from across the globe.
Fellow nominees for this award included The Blue Train (South Africa), Rovos Rail (South Africa), Great Southern Railway Ltd. (Australia), Palace on Wheels Inc. (India), Orient - Express Ltd. (U.K.), Orient Express (Peru), Grand North Western, The Royal Scotsman (Scotland).
“Our organization is delighted to be recognized with this distinguished honour for the third time running” said Randy Powell, President of Rocky Mountaineer Vacations. “ It’s wonderful to be acknowledged for our consistent effort to deliver the most spectacular experiences in the world, amongst so many outstanding and renowned tourist trains.”
The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the enormous achievements found in all areas of the global travel industry. Now in its 14th year, travel professionals and discerning travellers have come to regard the World Travel Awards as the best endorsement that a travel product could receive. Candidates for nomination are based upon the previous year’s voting by travel agents in over 190 countries from around the world. A total of 167,000 travel professionals, including more than 110,000 travel agents, took part in this year’s voting campaign.
Rocky Mountaineer Vacations offers year-round vacation packages to the most unique regions of Canada and four spectacular rail routes through British Columbia and Alberta. Best known for the world-acclaimed Rocky Mountaineer train, a two-day, all daylight rail journey between Canada’s West and the Canadian Rockies, the company also offers trips onboard the new Whistler Mountaineer train, which is a daily three-hour experience between North Vancouver and Whistler, BC. Since its inception in 1990, the company has grown to become the largest privately owned passenger rail service in North America and will welcome its one millionth guest in 2008. Rocky Mountaineer Vacations, one of Canada's leading tourism providers, is a proud partner of Gray Line West motorcoach operations in Banff, AB and Victoria, BC.
