Long weekends in Canada occur in May, July, August, September and October and you may find these periods to be busier in both Whistler and Vancouver. 3. How can I get updated information on your tours?
Your travel professional is a great source and, of course, we ensure that our web site has the latest information and it is a great trip planning resource for you. Feel free to contact our vacation consultants directly at any time. It would be their pleasure to assist you.
4. What are the advantages to traveling between Vancouver and Whistler by rail?
There are many unique features to rail travel. You will enjoy an extremely comfortable seat with ample legroom and have the freedom to enjoy the fresh air in our open observation car. Combined with attentive service, meal service at your seat and fascinating interpretive commentary, this type of leisurely paced travel will ensure that you know you are on vacation. Think “stress free.”
One of the greatest advantages, however, is the ability to travel through areas simply not accessible by foot, car or motorcoach. Leave the traffic behind you and appreciate this spectacular Sea to Sky journey. The routes we travel on are described as engineering marvels and as we follow beautiful Howe Sound, pass beside towering waterfalls and ride through spectacular river canyons, you will understand why. You will also pass through some of the most luxurious real estate found in Canada as we travel through West Vancouver. To truly appreciate the nature and scenery in this part of the world, the Whistler Mountaineer offers the very best vantage point.
5. What is included with my Whistler Mountaineer ticket?
Your trip on the Whistler Mountaineer includes station transfers in Whistler and Vancouver, meal service at your seat, baggage transfers, interpretive commentary, access to the open observation car and scenery that does not stop for three hours. Did we mention that you need to bring your camera and sunglasses! This will be a trip to remember. If you are from the Greater Vancouver or Whistler corridor, you know this is a trip you will want your friends and relatives to experience – and you should come along. It is Vancouver to Whistler, like never before!
6. How long do we spend in Whistler if we book a return trip for the same day?
First of all, there is so much to see and experience in Whistler, we encourage you to consider an overnight stay. One of our many packages is sure to appeal to you and allow you to really experience one of the world’s great resorts. This is a true getaway destination! Due to the rail station transfer schedule, a day trip using the Whistler Mountaineer in both directions will allow for 2.5 hour stopover in Whistler. For a longer Whistler day experience of up to 3.5 hours in the village, we invite you to return by motorcoach sightseeing tour with Gray Line West. This rail and motorcoach combination will depart Whistler at 4:00pm and arrive in Vancouver at 7:30pm. Please call us for details.
7. Are there baggage limitations?
Yes, we will be moving all luggage by truck as we do not have storage facilities aboard the train. You will not have access to your checked baggage throughout the trip. Please ensure you carry
all necessary medications with you. Your baggage will be available soon after your arrival in Whistler. On southbound trips from Whistler to North Vancouver, your baggage will accompany you on your motorcoach transfer to downtown Vancouver. Any specific baggage requirements should be declared 48 hours in advance of booking your reservation and we will do everything possible to meet your expectations. Given these limitations, please do NOT expect to receive you luggage immediately upon arriving in Whistler.
8. Can I book my trip online?
For your convenience, you can book online using our secure online booking system as of November 15, 2007. Should you have any questions, or wish to book before November 15, 2007, do not hesitate to contact our vacation consultants directly at 1-888-687-7245 or 604-606-8460.
9. What if I wish to take a taxi or be dropped off at a station in North Vancouver?
No problem - but please understand, your ticket onboard the Whistler Mountaineer includes all station transfers to and from downtown Vancouver and Whistler village. If you wish to check in directly at the North Vancouver Station or Whistler Station (Creekside), please plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to the departure times:
North Vancouver: Arrive and check in by 8am
Whistler: Arrive and check in by 2:30pm
Please click here for station locations
Important information for North Vancouver and Whistler check in should be considered in your travel plans.
NOTE: The Whistler Mountaineer DOES NOT depart or arrive at the Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver or the former BC Rail Station in North Vancouver. Please ensure that you have complete directions to the stations used by the Whistler Mountaineer in North Vancouver and Whistler (Creekside).
Please allow for extra time to ensure you have the proper station. Trains must depart on time and will not be held for late arrivals. If you arrive late, it is your responsibility to accommodate alternative travel plans.
10. What speed does the train travel?
The advantage of our train is that we are able to slow down at the most scenic areas to offer you the best viewing and camera opportunities. We call it Kodak® speed! Our average speed on the Whistler Mountaineer will be under 30 mph or 50kph, making it a true travel experience.
11. May I smoke onboard the Whistler Mountaineer?
No. To ensure the preservation of the fragile environment of the areas in which we travel and for the comfort of all guests and employees, there is no smoking onboard Whistler Mountaineer including the heritage observation car. This includes the vestibules between the coaches and restroom facilities.
12. Are souvenirs available for purchase?
A limited range of souvenirs are available for purchase onboard the Whistler Mountaineer. Your Onboard Attendant will provide you all of the assistance you require. Any specific enquiries may be directed to
souvenirs@rockymountaineer.com.
13. How long has Whistler Mountaineer been operating?
2008 represents our third year of operation for the Whistler Mountaineer. Since 1990 we have also operated the world renowned Rocky Mountaineer and have carried over 900,000 guests during this time. Twice we have won the World Travel Award (think Academy Awards for the tourism industry) as “World's Leading Travel Experience by Train”. Yes, we are proud and we are thrilled and excited to showcase the Whistler Mountaineer Route – and we know the Whistler Mountaineer is fast becoming a “must do” attraction here on Canada’s West Coast.
14. Is Rocky Mountaineer Vacations more than the Rocky Mountaineer train?
Indeed! The two-day all daylight Rocky Mountaineer train trip and the Whistler Mountaineer are both part of what we offer. We are also a vacation provider offering sightseeing, attractions, hotels, rental cars, meal plans, non rail vacations - even your airline ticket can be handled by our friendly vacation consultants. We offer one stop shopping for you or your travel agent and can assist in every aspect of planning your Canadian travel experience. For further information on what we have offer, we invite you to visit
www.rockymountaineer.com.
15. What is the GST?
The Goods and Services Tax is applicable to all purchases made in Canada. Please refer to
Terms & Conditions for more details
16. What is fuel surcharge?
Rocky Mountaineer Vacations has worked hard to internally absorb the
increase in oil prices over the past number of years. With the price of
oil hitting all-time highs worldwide and no forecast of prices
declining in the near future, we can no longer continue to absorb the
additional cost.
Before you Travel
1. What will the weather be like -and what should I pack?
Temperatures for Vancouver and Whistler vary significantly depending on location, time of day, and season, from a low of 10°C (50° F) to a high of 25° C (80° F). Plan to bring a sweater, slacks, and a light topcoat or raincoat, as well as lightweight summer wear. Pack sturdy comfortable shoes, especially if you plan to walk in the mountains. Flat-soled shoes should be worn on the train. Comfortable, casual attire is welcomed on the Whistler Mountaineer and many of our guests carry their sunglasses with them onboard the train. Do not forget your camera! In spring and fall, include a light coat or warm jacket if you're travelling to high altitudes. For weather updates and future forecasts in the areas we travel,

2. Can I add an Alaskan Cruise to my rail vacation?
Absolutely! Thousands of our guests take advantage of the rail and cruise seasons which are very similar. An Alaskan cruise that sails from Vancouver is the perfect complement to a trip on the Whistler Mountaineer and we have several pre and post cruise packages that are designed specifically for these guests. We make it easy for you in our transfers and baggage movement for any Alaskan cruise. Your vacation consultant can assist you in the planning of your “rail and sail” or “sail and rail” vacation.
3. Are you able to handle special group requests?
Absolutely again! If you are looking for a customized itinerary for a group of 10 or more, our Custom Group Consultants will provide you with an opportunity to offer your group a unique and memorable experience. In addition, our Spectacular Meetings and Incentives program lets you discover a unique venue for your business or incentive function. Whistler and Vancouver have everything to offer the most memorable group trip ever! For more information, contact us at

The Whistler Mountaineer is a perfect family trip. Children (2 – 11 years old) are eligible for special pricing when accompanied by an adult. For decades, kids and trains have had a special relationship. A three hour excursion onboard the Whistler Mountaineer is exciting and memorable for children and adults alike.
5. Is there special pricing for seniors?

6. What currency should I carry when travelling in Canada and on the train?
The currency used in Canada is Canadian dollars. Transactions onboard the train may be paid with travellers checks, VISA, MasterCard, American Express, JCB and Diner's Card. 8. Should I plan connecting transportation on the day of the Whistler Mountaineer’s arrival?
Passenger rail travel in Canada is subject to unforeseen delays. While the Whistler Mountaineer is treated as a priority by the railways it uses, occasional delays do occur. For that reason, we ask that you please do NOT arrange connecting transportation on the day of your scheduled arrival in any destination. Rest assured, we attempt to stay on schedule as best we can.
9. New Passport Requirements
Please be advised that effective January 23, 2007, all passengers including Canadian and U.S. citizens will be required to present a valid passport when travelling by air between Canada and the United States. Onboard Experience
1. Are we able to move within the Whistler Mountaineer?
One of the advantages of train travel is the spacious room afforded to all guests. All guests have access to the Heritage Observation Car during declared periods of the trip and we ask that you adhere to our Train Manager’s direction. Please understand that the open observation car will be closed during travel through tunnels and possibly at times during the meal service. The Glacier Dome coaches are only available to those guests who have booked assigned seats in these coaches. Guests in Coast Classic will also have assigned seats on their excursion.
2. Is there a better side to sit on the train?
All seats in the Glacier Dome and Coast Classic experiences are assigned to guests in advance. With access to the Heritage Observation Car and the choice to sit in a panoramic dome coach, there will be access to spectacular scenery for all to enjoy. We do ask that you respect fellow guests, train management and the crew preparing meal service when moving within the train. Keeping that in mind, this a great experience that will have your camera in ready position throughout.
3. Are both coaches accessible by wheelchair?
We do have wheelchair facilities for both the Glacier Dome and Coast Classic experiences. There are areas where a wheelchair can be secured in place and have access to the wheelchair accessible washrooms. Wheelchair lifters are available at all stations. All we ask is that we are informed 72 hours in advance of the time of booking of the extent of the disability so we can guarantee that all plans are in place to ensure the vacation experience is a spectacular one.
4. Can I use my laptop computer and cell phone on the train?
We do not have plugs at the seats for laptop use. Depending on your battery life, we suggest that you charge you computer at night during your hotel stays for use onboard the train. It goes without saying that you will have a better chance of seeing all the scenery without working on your laptop computer. On the Whistler Mountaineer, we are within cell range throughout the trip.
5. Can you address my dietary concerns onboard the train?
Absolutely. All we ask is that you or your booking agent provide us with 72 hours notice regarding your request. We will do everything possible to make your trip on the train memorable.
